Action Controls Inc. focuses on short run, built to order, electronics assemblies for companies across the United States. Our 20+ years in business allow us to understand the challenges of bringing a new design to production, delivering in a just-in-time environment and maintaining an end of life product in quantities of 1 or 2 or 1000. Our typical batch size of 100 to 200 for larger runs allows us great flexibility in scheduling and optimal control of inventory. Our variety of equipment and assembly techniques enables us to select the proper approach for each product from concept to delivery while focusing on superior quality and service at each step of the process. When you call Action Controls you’ll speak to the owner or the lead technician, and your requests will be met in a personal and timely fashion.
Our principle service is electronic assembly. We offer SMT and Through Hole assembly services from fine pitch to heavy part installation, using both leaded and lead free solder. Our SMT equipment includes Quad machines for smaller jobs and maximum flexibility, a Phillips Topaz high speed placer for larger jobs, SMT batch printers, and Heller Reflow machines for custom profiling. From the SMT area most products pass on to our through hole assembly area and Electrovert wave solder, high speed wash, and heated drying. We typically use water soluble flux for all products to ensure sparkling final assemblies. Where components are susceptible to water damage, we assemble by hand using no clean flux. All assemblies are inspected at each stage of assembly to make sure all placements and solder joints meet IPC 610 requirements.
In addition to our assembly services, we offer custom test development and implementation, custom trimming, conformal coating, and mechanical assembly as required. We are not a custom harness shop, but we can build and add small harnesses in box builds to assist our customers’ requirements.
Many of our products are used in high vibration and high moisture environments. In our conformal coating area we apply acrylic and silicone spray with UV inspection tracers, dip coated silicone to 80 mil thickness, and epoxy encapsulation as suitable to project requirements.
For higher volume or project specific requirements, we offer and encourage joint development of assembly specific test fixtures and procedures which are designed to fully power and test all I/O’s and communication interfaces. These tests insure that each assembly will perform per specification when installed in use to the customer’s exact requirements.
A special strength of Action Controls is our ability to work with designers and engineers from a variety of backgrounds and approaches. A clearly defined specification for each product is carefully assembled using our standard Custom Product Definition Questionnaire plus careful assembly and control of all required documentation in a fashion which ensures the relevance of required documentation and allows accessibility to this documentation at all stages of assembly.
For moving a concept into reality we can provide a range of services beyond the norm for electronic contract manufactures. Our owner is a Mechanical Engineer with 4 decades of experience integrating electronic controls into all types of systems. We can also call upon a broad range of consulting Electrical and Mechanical Engineers for custom design. Our assembly staff is extremely flexible and experienced in the difficulties faced by designers in devising new products or by purchasers seeking assistance with short run End of Life products. We also have limited machining and sheet metal capabilities for prototypes, as well as strong working arrangements with a wide variety of short run and production metal fabricators.
As explained above we devote significant resources to our Quality Assurance effort, but we also recognize the strength of International Certification of our Production QA methods, so we are committed to obtaining ISO 9000 certification by mid 2013. We have completed over 80% of the top level documentation with a special focus on Maintenance and Calibration procedures and the accompanying audit trails. We are concentrating our present efforts on process documentation in a clear, well illustrated format accessible and company wide Internal Audit at the beginning of April, 2013 in order to pave the way for commercial certification as noted.
